About Us
The Access to Nutrition initiative (ATNi) is a global nonprofit that seeks to improve market performance by challenging key actors in the food system—starting with industry—to accelerate access to affordable, nutritious food for all, especially for society's most vulnerable. ATNi envisions a world where markets help provide access to nutritious and affordable diets, ultimately preventing deaths and illnesses related to poor nutrition. Its strategic goal is to transform markets, so that by 2030, at least half of food and beverage companies' sales come from healthier products that contribute to healthy, sustainable diets for everyone.
ATNi develops and publishes a range of private sector tools that offer comprehensive, consistent, and standardized analysis of major food and beverage companies' performance on nutrition. It builds strategic alliances and partnerships that amplify its call for change, while also focusing on new research, services, and tools to highlight good practices and identify innovations that reduce barriers to access.
One of ATNi’s flagship publications is the Global Index, which evaluates the nutritional performance of the world's largest food and beverage manufacturers. ATNi will release the fifth iteration in November 2024. This edition will assess 30 of the largest global food and beverage manufacturers, which together account for 30% of the global processed food market.
While the Index has shown progress over the past two years, companies still need to make significant improvements in promoting healthy and sustainable diets for all.
